Colour: Resene Smooch

"The approach for my design was inspired by the particular aesthetics of the romantic movement. This derived from the freedom of self-expression of Maya's story and the Resene colour Smooch.

I was drawn to the aesthetics of the Romantic Movement and particularly the philosophy of man's connection with nature being mentally and morally healthy. As I delved into my research I started looking at dark romanticism, where people expressed their emotions on the opposite side of the spectrum. I thought this was a fascinating juxtaposition. I admired the gothic style of architecture that was built during the movement and all the forms and shapes they pursued.

Maya's story gave me free reins to take advantage of the fantasy se was living in and create something unique, bold and eye catching. I imagine that my dress could be a product of the fantasy world she explores.

Aspects from these elements of inspiration enabled me to design a dress that will provoke, delight and wow its audience. My design is based around structural forms and natural softness, yet appears to be mysterious, extra-terrestrial and quirky. Thus creating the perfect balance of elements to make my dress unique and stand out."
