A child's room that is playful and meets her needs now but that will easily adapt with her as she grows Room to grow
When you look at this sweet little room, it's hard to tell what age the owner of it is. And that's exactly what Resene Dream Room winner Nicola Wylie was going for when she created it for her 18-month-old daughter, Georgia. "I was keen to design a room that was playful and met her needs now but that would easily adapt with her as she grows. I wanted it to last her into her early teens - I certainly don't want to be redoing it again in a hurry!" Nicola says with a laugh... more
A bedroom makeover for 2 young boys The KAPOW factor
Every superhero needs a righthand-guy. For three-and-a-half year-old Kohl Naylor, it’s his cute seven-month-old brother Chace, who arrived on Christmas Day. And everyone knows that superheroes (and growing boys) need space to practise their moves, so mum Rachel and dad Kevin kindly gave up their main bedroom for the cause – all it needed was a makeover fit for two young caped crusaders. Rachel wanted to create a room that was bright and adventurous but also personalised to her sons. She also wanted to reflect the theme of ‘brotherly love’, saying, “My boys adore each other and that’s a quality I want to nurture”… more

A girl's bedroom with a bed in a tree Branching out
Lucky Lola’s got a new bed in a tree and a cool retro-dairy mural , thanks to her Dad’s late-night dedication to her room makeover. Our Resene Room Three winner, dad-of-two Josh Cowley, is clearly a man who thrives under pressure. He finished this bedroom at 4am the day our photographer arrived to shoot it. The Wellington builder and former signwriter had a clear vision for his four-year-old daughter Lola’s bedroom which encapsulated the feel of yesteryear New Zealand. But finding the time to execute it proved more difficult
A Resene Dream Room winner First things first
This family was all ready to decorate their son’s room – but then had something bigger to deal with. Stripping wallpaper is an exhausting process at the best of times. And when our second of three Resene Dream Room winners Paul and Emma Anderson started preparing their son Roman’s room for its makeover they discovered three layers of the stuff dating back to the 1970s. Despite an enthusiastic start, Paul soon found he couldn’t even find the energy to keep up with his heavily pregnant wife – and the couple decided to wait until Paul took his three weeks maternity leave... more
Space ship control room design for s baby's bedroom Beam me up baby
A shared passion for science fiction inspired Manja and Dave Lane to create this remarkable bedroom for Isaac, now 16 months. The couple set their hearts on rockets and robots as soon as they knew they were having a baby. Dave's dad Rodger Lane helped them by taking on the job of building the cabinetry. He built each piece at his home then delivered them individually while Manja, Dave and Manja's father Rob Pieters painted the room. At roughly three metres square, Isaac's bedroom presented a few space challenges of a different sort. It had almost no storage, which was something else for the Lanes' design... more
A rainbow of fresh pastel stripes has turned this little girl’s bedroom into a sunny place to play and rest Stripe me pastel
First home buyers Melina and Michael Langley knew when they bought their Hamilton property three years ago it could do with a few improvements. But once they became parents to baby Emma and adjusted to life on one income, they soon realised that doing up their home would be an expensive and gradual process. Married to a boat builder who’s at home with power tools, Melina knew she could rely on Michael to turn her room design into a reality so she went for broke and included a paint treatment in baby Emma’s bedroom that many people might find a tad intimidating... more
