Skyward

The Mahony family bought a new home and they needed to brighten up the children's bedroom which was looking rather drab. They had brought a blind from their old house and wanted to match a colour with that, and it also needed to be a colour that both their two year old son and four year old daughter liked.

They decided on Resene Subzero, which Victoria decided she needed to break it up so it didn’t get overpowering. Her sister had just painted vertical stripes in her shop and Victoria suddenly had a thought that thick horizontal stripes would look great across one wall. She finally convinced her husband that it wouldn't be too hard with the help of some trusty masking tape, a ruler and a little bit of patience.

It took a lot of patience, particularly as her brother had made ceiling to floor shelves that could only go on the wall she'd planned for the stripes so she decided that she would just run the stripes over the shelves. But they got there in the end, and felt very proud of their efforts as they are not known to be that ‘handy’. The Mahony family love the colour and their daughter, who has the top bunk, said it felt like “she was floating in the sky”.
