Resene PaintsMoving on from earthy
After building three new houses, it was an exciting change for the Pickworth family to buy a 1930s bungalow. The house was in good condition but they wanted to put their own mark on it. Their three previous homes had used neutral colour schemes so they were keen to move on from the earthy tones so they looked around for inspiration.

After driving around many houses looking for inspiration they decided to be bold and paint the exterior a dark grey - Resene Gravel. The finished look speaks for itself and they are delighted. An added advantage was using Resene Cool Colour technology, which allowed them to use a darker colour on the outside without having to be worried about the effects of damage from the sun.

They love the look and apparently others do too - with someone walking in off the street to ask them what colour they used not long after the project was complete.

Inside they teamed their polished wooden floors in the kitchen/dining with Resene Stonehenge walls and for a softer look they used Resene Half Stonehenge in the lounge. To make a statement they pored through Resene wallpaper books and created a feature wall with texture complementing the other three walls.
