Deep space
Having decided on a space theme for her son's bedroom, Angela spent feeding times (mainly during the night) sitting in his bedroom letting the ideas develop. Envisaging a colour scheme of blue and silver with touches of orange, Angela selected Resene Deep Koamaru as the blue - rich, and a very warm shade of a traditionally cold colour, it is also a good colour to depict space.

The plan was to use Resene Enamacryl Metallic Silver Aluminium to paint spaceships, stars, planets and so on onto the walls. However, as the planning progressed it became obvious that the scheme would be better and more flexible if objects could be stuck onto the wall then moved around, rather than being painted in a fixed position.

The dilemma was how to stick the objects onto the wall so they wouldn't be too permanent, which is where the idea of the magnetic wall was born. So the wall was painted with Resene Magnetic Magic and two coats of Resene Deep Koamaru.

Some of the stars are glow-in-the-dark but many are handmade made out of stiff cardboard painted in Resene Enamacryl Metallic Silver Aluminium. Each star has one or more little magnets on the back. The stars combined with the deep blue background have turned the wall into something that looks just like the Milky Way. Best of all, the wall is so versatile - by simply changing the magnets a completely different theme can be created, such as fish magnets for a marine theme. And when Angela's son grows up and wants to stick posters on the wall, it's a simple matter of sticking magnets to the back of the posters and they can go on the wall without damaging the paint.

Resene Deep Koamaru has been used on other room elements such as the furniture, mirror and toy chest to keep within the space theme, accented by bright and bold cushions for a touch of extra colour.
