To enliven the interior of this waterfront home, designer Di Henshall specified a reflective paint that would change with the light.
It’s official. Not all whites are created equal. Along with subtle colour differences, the reflective quality of white and near-white paints can vary considerably.
For her own home, designer Di Henshall specified Resene Alabaster from the Resene The Range Whites & Neutrals fandeck. Henshall says the high reflective quality of Resene Alabaster was the main reason for her choice.
“This paint adopts the colours around it,” she says. “In the living room, for example, there are a lot of warm colours in the furnishings. These are reflected in the walls. The mood also changes as the light changes, which is another reason I chose this particular shade of white.”
Resene Alabaster features throughout the house. In the master suite, which has white curtains and a white bedspread, it helps create a sense of retreat.
Henshall says she also specifies Resene Alabaster for other interior design projects, because of its reflective qualities.
The walls in this house are painted in Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen, a tough, low-odour, waterborne enamel. Resene marketing manager Karen Warman says this paint provides a durable, washable, enamel-like finish. In critical light areas, its reduced side sheen minimises surface imperfections. It is commonly combined with a skim coating of Resene Broadwall Surface Prep or Resene Broadwall 3 in 1.
