Jonathan Grange
Jonathan Grange, is a self taught airbrush artist who has painted murals around the Rodney district and on the North Shore of Auckland, including a residential mural that came second in the professional category of the Resene Mural Masterpieces competition. He started airbrushing about 25 years ago, doing the usual painting onto cars trucks etc.. then he progressed to commissioned paintings of peoples vehicles, pets, portraits and the odd tee shirt or two. More recently he has been painting murals. The work he does reflects the surroundings of the mural - wildlife, flax, native birds, coastal beach scenes, etc.

His recent work has been focused on painting surf art. The surf art boards are all crafted by Jonathan, then airbrushed with a cool surf scene (usually a nice wave and a bit of coastland) and finished off with either Resene Uracyl or Resene Aquaclear. They can be custom made to any shape size and Resene Deep Sea – a perfect fit with his art! He finds that the choice of colour and the vibrancy of Resene paints are great for his style of work and he loves the way a painting takes on a life of its own that draws in the public’s interest. Jonathan’s fascination with wave forms and the way light reflects through water stems from absorbing himself in the subject matter and just a love of surf culture.

Jonathan gets his inspiration from long walks on the beach and studying the sea and surf. He loves what he does giving joy to people through his work and it never ceases to amaze him how many people stop and have a chat when he is painting a mural.

Jonathan is available for commissions and can depict most murals surroundings well, working in with the community.
