Raised garden bed

It’s easy to revamp an old wooden raised garden bed using Resene Woodsman penetrating oil stain.

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: a bucket, stiff-bristled broom, garden sprayer, hose with clean running water, paintbrush and a paint stirrer. Resene Moss & Mould Killer, Resene Timber and Deck Wash, Resene Woodsman Penetrating Oil Stain tinted to Resene Cherrywood.

To get the look: Mark painted the foreground plant pot with a Resene testpot of Resene Spritzer.

Other ideas: For a soft blue effect stain the wooden raised bed with Resene Waterborne Woodsman tinted to Resene Pickled Bluewood.

Step 1 how to revamp an old wooden raised garden bed
Step one
Brush down the old wood with a stiff-bristled broom to remove any dust and dirt.
Step 2 how to revamp an old wooden raised garden bed
Step two
Mix one part Resene Moss & Mould Killer to five parts clean water and fill the garden sprayer with the diluted solution.

Generously soak the wooden raised bed with the solution and leave for 48 hours.

Step four
Mix one part Resene Timber and Deck Wash to three parts water.

Step five
Scrub the solution vigorously into the wood using a stiff-bristled broom. Allow the wood to remain wet for ten to fifteen minutes and then rinse thoroughly with clean water. Allow to dry.

Carefully stir the Resene Woodsman penetrating oil stain with a paint stirrer.

Step seven
Apply one coat of Resene Waterborne Woodsman penetrating oil stain to the wooden raised bed, brushing in the direction of the grain, and allow to dry for 2 hours.

Step eight
Apply a second coat of Resene Waterborne Woodsman penetrating oil stain to the raised bed, brushing in the direction of the grain. Again, allow 2 hours to dry.
