Magnifique Madison

Anahera wanders by the Bridge of Arts, starring deep into the blue river that reflected sparkles in her eyes. The colour in her tears reveals the melancholy in her mind. She goes back to her path, the way to the Louvre. She arrives in front of the pyramid made of glass. She sees her reflection in those multiple triangles. She suddenly stops. Now she knows. It’s possible.

She runs outside and starts looking around. There it is! The French flag with his blue for Paris next to the white for the king. She has to go. She sprints to the river Seine and jumps on a boat. She sails on the serenity of the deep blue river. The rhythm of the waves calms her heartbeats. She arrives. Versailles. The Magnificent castle. The blue sky of the sun king. 

She passes through the gate and feels alive with an intensity of ambition as she is transported into a life of freedom. A place that her peaceful heart was looking for. She goes out of Versailles and steps into the dark blue night on loyal earth to the shiny moon. She sees Paris and stands not like a queen but like a beautiful strong independent woman she’s wild and free. Madison.

I’ve designed a shirt dress with a fitted skirt wraps around the dress. The frills and pleats side of the sleeve and the pleated bottom of the dress were inspired by Anahera’s spontaneous adventure and my paint colour Resene Madison. The colour Madison reminds me of the ocean, waves and freedom; that’s why I want to create lots of texture and movement.

The smocking back with a sun face embroidery was inspired by Versailles and the sun king.

The fitted skirt was inspired by her strength and determination to find freedom.
