When I thought of the ocean I wanted to create something bold and to construct a fascinating shape to intensify my Resene colour Into The Blue. The bias cut front pulls across her chest. Slipping off her shoulders are these straight tendril arms before bellowing to the ground creating her shell and body. It is a symbol of Anahera and her adventure. Into The Blue is the strength behind her, the bold colour creates an elongating silhouette. In each stride she is tall and confident without fear she is steady on her feet ready to explore the world. The edge of the top is like the ocean’s wave and beneath all is calm. The skirt is slim and elegant, the harmonious underside beneath the rolling waves.

In my piece I wanted her to look as if she was soft and powerful. The underside of her top represents the unknown; it is in the shadows and what makes her different from everybody else. This detail is who she is, it is intricate and beautiful and as much or as little as you may see, she will always have her secrets. With the manipulation of the fabric I wanted to evoke a feeling of soft and hard, strong, deep and dark. The shadows and depth each ruffle provides is mesmerising. Catching the light and creating shadows, the look is constantly evolving; you might never catch a glimpse again. Forever fluid and changing, just like the ocean, deceptive, nurturing, a place for peace and tranquillity, yet a constant battle between chaos and harmony.”
