Flying Sky-High

Anahera’s story sounds like a dream. A dream that’s rare, full of excitement, adventure and life. A desire to travel to different countries around the world is a once in a lifetime opportunity. She might not want to wake up at all…well, not just yet. Where there are no limits or expectations, she has the power of freedom to roam or soar anywhere.

With no control, nothing is holding her back from expressing herself along gaining new experiences. As her fashionable path continues forward, she’ll create unforgettable memories, cherishing the moments she spent her time in each inspiring city. Having a dream like this could also mean that there is a possible chance for it to come true one day.

My inspiration is about being able to go travelling around the world. Sitting on an airplane, you fly up high above the clouds, either watching the sunset or sunrise, and seeing different countries below. I always admire the big landscape view of the cities along having the nature to accompany it. Due to the lovely, light shade of blue, it reminded me of the blue sky, with the white clouds just floating along. It gave me the idea that Anahera could be flying from one country to another anytime she wishes. Another inspiration is based on the Disney film character, Mary Poppins. She links to the ‘Blue Moon’ idea because it’s rare for a special, beautiful nanny like her to come flying in from the sky to aid the Banks family. She has the powerful element of surprises where ever she goes, bringing fantasies and dreams to life. Her personality inspires everyone, especially the children where she gives them freedom and fun. The time era in the film is set in the 1910s which inspires me as I always admire the Victorian, old fashioned, detailed dresses the ladies wore everyday on the streets of London.

My theme for this is freedom. This gave me the ideas of having my design to be a loose, flowy dress that drapes along with the raglan sleeves, have 4 layers of gathered tiers around the whole body and having a bow at the back as a small, pretty surprise. As the garment is loose fitting, it can be put on easily by slipping it over the head and can adjust the neckline to any position you want. The emotions I felt when I read the story was free, calm, relaxed, exciting, fun and inspired. The dress would come alive when being worn along showing how much freedom it has.
