Colour: Resene Smashing
“I found my Inspiration for this garment in the way that Resene describes my colour, Smashing. They state that ‘it is a pure bold red. It is so full of provocative energy that it demands to be centre stage.’
Because I have previously studied Performing Arts, I found myself overwhelmingly intrigued and curious about what it meant to be centre stage and what the view looked like.
Upon further research, I found that this inspiration sparked a strong theme. This theme included obvious lines, and shapes. When translating these themes into a garment, I placed these lines and shapes onto a dress form in quite a literal sense.
This created the skirt, which is full and comprised of several layers, each having 3-4 separate sections that have each been puffed out by two layers of tulle. Each layer overlaps and sits in a different place to the last. The bodice is simple and strong, with a high front neckline and low back neckline. The bodice ends high on the hips.
This design embodies Resene Smashing. This design is bold, it has energy and it demands to be centre stage.”
