Start by taking the space you are working with and asking yourself: how and when will I use this space and what story do I want the space to tell?

Ideally, find the wallpaper you love and want to use before you start looking at paint colours. It is important to note that wallpaper chooses you. When you find the one every part of you will yearn for it and you will visualise it on the walls in your home.

Wallpaper is a statement, so remember to be brave. Be unique. Be different. This is your space and story to tell. Worst case scenario, you wallpaper over it! Our top 3 combinations this season are...

1. Power room

For those wanting to create a sense of wow and impact, this is it. The reason being that this amazing textural wallpaper commands attention, it wants and needs to be the centre of attention. Wallpaper: Feels Good BN48324. Paint: Resene Double Alabaster, Resene Half Foundry.

2. Textural lift

A textural lift is when we use a textured wallpaper to add pizazz to the space without overwhelming the room with too many colours or patterns. This look is generally found in rooms where we have bold colour in our furniture or fixtures. You could either paint your textured wallpaper in a bold colour for that wow look, or paint the whole room the same colour, with the wallpaper creating a subtle difference in only one area of the space. Wallpaper: Anaglypta RD0151. Paint: Resene Spanish White, Resene Double Drought, Resene Quarter Villa White.

3. Tonal Contrasts

Tonal contrasting is when we pull similar colours from the wallpaper to use on walls or accents. This creates a more uniformed look, and will help achieve a room that has comfort and peace at its core. Wallpaper: Elements 46524. Paint: Resene Rockbottom, Resene Merino, Resene Half Alabaster.
