Transform a drab metal gate into a bright focal point with a little bit of help from Resene.

You will need
- Clean cloth
- Metal gate
- Mineral turps for washing brush
- Paint stirrers
- Resene GP Metal Primer
- Resene Lustacryl tinted to your choice of colour, Mark used Resene Tomorrow
- Tools for hanging gate
To get the look: Mark painted the wooden gate post with Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Alabaster.
Other ideas: For a bright orange feature paint the gate with Resene Lustacryl tinted to Resene Adrenalin.
How to paint a metal gate
Sand the gate to remove any areas of light rust or loose paint and also to ‘key’ the surface.
Wipe off any sanding residue with a clean cloth.
Carefully stir the Resene GP Metal Primer.
Apply one coat of Resene GP Metal Primer to the gate and allow to dry. Clean the brush with mineral turps.
Carefully stir the Resene Lustacryl tinted to Resene Tomorrow.
Apply one coat of Resene Lustacryl tinted to Resene Tomorrow to the gate and allow to dry.
Apply a second coat of Resene Lustacryl tinted to Resene Tomorrow to the gate and allow to dry.
Fit the gate hinges and catch according to manufacturer’s recommendations and hang the gate in position.
