How to make an aged terracotta pot

It’s easy to age a brand new terracotta pot using Resene Karen Walker Chalk Colour and Vintage Wax.

You will need:

Clean cloths
Karen Walker Chalk Colour paint tinted to Resene Clementine Orange
Karen Walker Vintage Wax

New terracotta pot
Paint stirrer
Paintbrush
Resene Aquapel & Terracotta Sealer
Rubber gloves

To get the look: Mark decorated the shelf with Karen Walker Chalk Colour tinted to Resene Blanched Pink and Karen Walker Vintage Wax.

Other ideas: For a rich metallic rust effect use Resene FX Faux Rust Effect Activator over two coats of Resene FX Faux Rust Effect Basecoat.

Step one
Wipe the terracotta pot with a cloth to remove any surface dust.

Step two
Apply one coat of Resene Aquapel & Terracotta Sealer to the terracotta pot inside and out and allow to dry.

Step three
Carefully stir the Karen Walker Chalk Colour paint tinted to Resene Clementine Orange.

Step four
Turn the terracotta pot upside down and paint the outside with one coat of Karen Walker Chalk Colour paint tinted to Resene Clementine Orange. Allow to dry.

Step five
Apply a second coat of Karen Walker Chalk Colour paint tinted to Resene Clementine Orange to the outside of the pot. Allow to dry.

Step six
Turn the terracotta pot the right way up and paint the inner and outer rim with one coat of Karen Walker Chalk Colour paint tinted to Resene Clementine Orange. Allow to dry.

Step seven
Apply a second coat of Karen Walker Chalk Colour paint tinted to Resene Clementine Orange to the inner and outer rim. Allow to dry.

Step eight
Wearing rubber gloves apply a little Karen Walker Vintage Wax to the painted surface of the pot, wiping off any excess with a clean cloth. Allow wax to dry.
