Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: Bucket with warm clean soapy water, Clean cloths, Filler, Mineral turpentine, Paintbrushes, Putty knife or similar, Resene Quick Dry, Resene SpaceCote Flat washable wall and ceiling tinted to Resene Egg Sour, Resene Sureseal, Sandpaper, Tongue and groove ceiling

To get the look: Mark painted the background walls with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Shiraz and Resene Porsche.

Other ideas: For a cool restful effect, paint the ceiling with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Half Cut Glass.

How to repaint an old tongue and groove ceiling

Step one
Thoroughly wash the ceiling with warm soapy water, and then wipe off any soapy residue with clean water and allow ceiling to dry.

Step two
Fill any holes or imperfections with filler and allow to dry.

Step three
Smooth any filled areas with sandpaper.

Step four
Wipe off any sanding residue with a clean cloth.

Step five
Carefully stir the Resene Sureseal using a paint stirrer.

Step six
Apply one coat of Resene Sureseal over any old watermarks on the ceiling and then wash brush in turpentine. Spot prime the filler and any areas of bare wood with Resene Quick Dry. Allow to dry.

Step seven
Carefully stir the Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Egg Sour with a paint stirrer.

Step eight
Apply two coats of Resene Egg Sour to the ceiling, brushing in the direction of the tongue and groove. Allow two hours for each coat to dry.
