Weekend DIY with Mark Rayner - Project 41

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: Bucket with clean water, Damp sponge, Filler, Old towel, Paintbrushes, Paint stirrer, Paint tray and roller, Putty knife (or similar) for filling holes, Resene Interior Paintwork Cleaner, Resene Enamacryl tinted to Resene Alabaster, Resene Quick Dry, Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen Kitchen & Bathroom tinted to Resene Aqua, Sandpaper, Screwdriver, Sponge

To get the look: Mark painted the ceiling with Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen Kitchen & Bathroom tinted to Resene Alabaster.

How to update your bathroom

 
Step oneStep one
Remove bathroom fittings such as towel rails and wall-mounted cabinets. Carefully peel off old wallpaper, soaking any remaining paper with water to remove.
Step twoStep two
Wash the walls and woodwork thoroughly with Resene Interior Paintwork Cleaner and rinse off with clean water. Dry with an old towel.
Step threeStep three
Fill any holes and allow the filler to dry. Smooth the dried filler with sandpaper and wipe off any sanding residue with a damp cloth. Spot prime any filled areas with one coat of Resene Quick Dry and allow two hours to dry. Then prime the full surface with Resene Quick Dry and allow two hours to dry.
Step fourStep four
Stir the Resene Alabaster and then apply two coats to the trim and joinery, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.

Step 5Step five
Stir the Resene Aqua and then carefully cut in around the edges, as shown.
Step sixStep six
Carefully pour some Resene Aqua into the paint tray.
Step eightStep seven
Apply one coat of Resene Aqua to the walls and allow to dry for two hours. Repeat steps five and seven.
Step nineStep eight
Replace all bathroom fittings such as towel rails and wall-mounted cabinets.
