Weekend DIY with Mark Rayner - Project 34

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: Bucket of warm soapy water, Clean sponge or cloth, Clean water, Paintbrushes (including artists’ brushes), Resene Terracotta Sealer, Resene testpots of Resene Bright Red, Resene Christi and Resene English Holly, Strawberry plant, Strawberry potting mix, Terracotta pot with strawberry design

To get the look: Mark painted the background shed wall with Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene English Holly.

Other ideas: For a bright red metallic effect paint the pot with a basecoat of Resene Pirate and two topcoats of Resene Glitterbug.

How to paint a terracotta plant pot

Step one
Wash the terracotta pot in warm soapy water.

Step two
Rinse the terracotta pot in clean water and allow to dry.

Step three
Apply one coat of Resene Terracotta Sealer to the inside and outside of the terracotta pot and allow to dry.

Step four
Apply one coat of Resene Christi to the outside, top and inner rim of the terracotta pot and allow two hours to dry.

Step five
Apply a second coat of Resene Christi to the pot and allow two hours to dry.

Step six
Paint in the strawberries with Resene Bright Red and allow two hours to dry.

Step seven
Paint in the strawberry leaves and stems with Resene English Holly and allow two hours to dry.

Step eight
Plant up the pot with a strawberry plant and good quality strawberry potting mix.
