Create this cool classic house number with a little bit of help from Resene.

Weekend DIY with Mark Rayner - Project 31

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: Carbon paper, Enlarged photocopy of house number, Low-tack masking tape, Paintbrushes, Piece of treated plywood, Pen or pencil, Resene testpots of Resene Black and Resene Sea Nymph, Resene Quick Dry, Ruler, Sandpaper, Saw

To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Jet Stream.

Other ideas: For a bold monochrome look paint the numbers with Resene Nero, the edge with Resene Jaguar and the background with Resene Alabaster.

How to paint a house number

 
Step 1Step one
Measure, mark and cut the plywood to the desired size – ours measured approximately 300mm x 400mm.
Step 2Step two
Smooth any rough edges with sandpaper.
Step 3Step three
Apply one coat of Resene Quick Dry to the plywood and allow two hours to dry.
Step 4Step four
Apply two coats of Resene Sea Nymph to the plywood, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step 5Step five
Lay the carbon paper on the painted plywood and put the photocopy of house number on top. Keep in position with masking tape.
Step 6Step six
Trace around the number with a pen or pencil. Remove the photocopy and carbon paper.
Step 7Step seven
Paint the house number with two coats of Resene Black, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step 8Step eight
Mask off a 10mm strip around the edge of the plywood, as shown, and apply two coats of Resene Black, allowing two hours for each coat to dry. Carefully remove the masking tape before the paint is fully dry.
