Weekend DIY with Mark Rayner - Project 28

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need: Damp cloth, Good quality paintbrush, Paint stirrer, Resene Hot Weather Additive, Resene Lustacryl tinted to Resene Double Alabaster, Resene Lustacryl tinted to Resene Silver Chalice, Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Silver Chalice, Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer, Sandpaper

To get the look: Mark painted the background wall with Resene SpaceCote Flat tinted to Resene Half Sea Fog.

Other ideas: Create another cool contemporary look with a combination of Resene Triple Thorndon Cream and Resene Eighth Thorndon Cream.

How to repaint a fireplace

 
Step 1Step one
Lightly sand the surface of the ceramic tiles and varnished woodwork to provide a ‘key’.
Step 2Step two
Wipe off any sanding residue and clean down the paintwork on the fireplace surround with a damp cloth. Allow to dry.
Step 3Step three
Apply one coat of Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer to the woodwork and allow two hours to dry.
Step 4Step four
Apply one coat of Resene Waterborne Smooth Surface Sealer to the ceramic tiles and allow two hours to dry.
Step 5Step five
Add 20ml of Resene Hot Weather Additive to the Resene Lustacryl (Resene Silver Chalice) and stir well with a paint stirrer.
Step 6Step six
Apply two coats of Resene Lustacryl (Resene Silver Chalice) to the tiles, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step 7Step seven
Apply two coats of Resene Lustacryl (Resene Double Alabaster) to the woodwork, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
Step 8Step eight
Apply two coats of Resene SpaceCote Flat (Resene Silver Chalice) to the fireplace surround, allowing two hours for each coat to dry.
