Painted front door

Give a tired old front door a fresh new lease of life with a little bit of help from Resene.

Difficulty level: Moderate

You will need

Clean cloth and damp sponge
Filler
Old wooden door
Paintbrush
Putty knife or similar for filling

Resene Quick Dry
Resene Lustacryl tinted to Resene Flourish
Sandpaper
Screwdriver
Stiff-bristled brush

To get the look: Mark painted the surrounding wall with Resene Lumbersider tinted to Resene Black White.

Other ideas: For a darker, more traditional green try Resene Lustacryl tinted to Resene Black Forest.

How to paint your front door

Step 1

Step one
Take the door off its hinges. Remove any surface dust and dirt from the door and surround using a stiff bristled brush.

Step 2

Step two
Wipe down the door and surround with a damp sponge and allow to dry.

Step 3

Step three
Fill any holes in the door and surround using an exterior filler. Allow to dry.

Step 4

Step four
Sand the filled holes with sandpaper.

Step 5

Step five
Wipe off any sanding residue with a clean cloth.

Step 6

Step six
Apply one coat of Resene Quick Dry to the door and surround and allow two hours to dry.

Step 7

Step seven
Apply one coat of Resene Quick Dry to the door and surround and allow two hours to dry.

Step 8

Step eight
Apply a second coat of Resene Flourish to the door and surround. Allow to dry and re-hang the door.
