Wait for one month for the wall paint to fully cure.
Wipe down: Use a slightly damp cloth to wipe the wall. No cleaning product needed.
Lightly sand the area you are applying the wall decal: Lightly sand with fine-grit sandpaper to smooth imperfections and improve decal grip. Make sure you only sand the area the decal will be covering.
Remove dust: Wipe down again with a slightly damp cloth to remove dust. Allow to fully dry.
Ready to install: Now you're ready to start your decal installation! Follow the instructions for application.
Resene Wall Decals work best with matte, low sheen, satin or semi-gloss paint finish and are not recommended on highly textured concrete, highly textured wallpaper, stucco or primer finishes. If you want to be able to move your wall decal to another room or home, you can choose to apply it onto a painted panel so it is easy to move later.
Peel & Stick
Peel & stick wall decals are much like a very large sticker. These are the easiest wall decals to stick onto your wall.
How to install a peel & stick wall decal
If your Resene Wall Decal is large (bigger than 40cm wide) use masking tape to hold the decal on the wall, step back and see how it looks where it is.
Adjust as desired and take a photo. You can use this to look back on to make sure you get the positioning right.
Peel your Resene Wall Decal off the backing paper and stick it onto your wall.
Press one edge of the Resene Wall Decal onto the surface and smooth your decal from the middle to the outside with your hand.
Repeat if your decal has multiple parts.
If there are bubbles, use your fingers to move them out or alternatively use a credit card.

Regular wall decals with application tape
Resene Wall Decals with application tape are more detailed. They are not just one solid sticker but have been carefully cut out around the edges of the design and also possibly inside it to allow your background wall colour to run right to the edge of your decal. This can look as if the wall decal has been carefully drawn with high accuracy straight onto your wall.
These wall decals have fine details. You can't simply stick them straight onto your wall as you will get tangled in all the small parts.
These decals are supplied with application tape on top of the decal. This will allow you to apply the decal smoothly in one go, then remove the application tape. Application tape is also used on text so you can apply entire paragraphs in one go without having to line up every letter.
How to install a wall decal with application tape
These Resene Wall Decals are for one-time use, so take your time to choose the perfect spot.
Tape the design to the surface with masking tape to make sure it's exactly where you want it. Use a level if necessary.
Fold back the top of the design, then begin peeling the white backing paper from the graphic and transfer tape at a 45° angle.
If some of the wall decal doesn't come free, press it down again, and give it a quick rub over on the transfer tape side.
Peel down the white backing paper about 20cm from the top.
Once the white backing is removed the adhesive is exposed, so be careful the design does not fold over onto itself. Press and fold the top of the white backing over (about 20cm from the top), and then rub the exposed section of the design onto the wall.
Continue to rub the remainder of the design onto the wall while peeling off the white backing. If your decal is large, ask a friend for help. Otherwise you should be able to manage the application in one step.
Now, start at a corner again, and slowly peel or roll the transfer tape away from the wall decal at a 45° angle. Continue until the transfer tape is completely removed from the wall and graphic.
Enjoy your new Resene Wall Decal!
While the decals are made with low-tack vinyl, which is designed to be removable, please be aware we cannot guarantee that paint won't be removed when the decal is peeled off. This can depend on the existing paint finish and how well it is stuck to the wall. If you wish, you can apply your decal to a canvas which will enable you to move it to different rooms or take it with you when you move home.
If small areas of paint are removed when you remove the decal, you can repair this following these steps:
If your decal is made from a woven fabric, simply peel it off - it can be reused!
Warm up the decal: Use a hairdryer on a low heat to gently warm the decal, softening the adhesive for easier removal.
Peel off slowly: Start from one corner and carefully peel the decal away at a 45-degree angle. Take your time. Pulling your wall decal off too fast is likely to damage the wall.
Clean the wall: Wipe the area with a damp cloth to remove any residue, then let it dry.
If you are having a hard time deciding which wall decal to use in a particular room or space, try taking inspiration from the objects surrounding you. You can bring out the colour in a funky piece of furniture by finding a wall decal that matches it. This will give the room a real sense of unity and dazzle your client! You can also place wall decals strategically around the room so that they complement your furniture in other ways. We have seen some great examples of wall decals being used in the place of bedheads or artwork. Simply choose a design you like and apply in place of a bedhead or artwork.
