Waipareira Trust – Canteen and Outdoor Eating Area

Auckland

With the new look came a new upscaled healthier menu bringing new patrons from nearby businesses.

Canteen Interior

Inside

Having a very supportive client, whose main focus was on creating the best environment for people of the Trust and making this gift of the new Canteen ready for their return from a break made this project very rewarding and satisfying. The completed project is an upmarket café in a Western suburb. With the new look came a new upscaled healthier menu bringing new patrons from nearby businesses.

Interior view

The colour scheme was dictated by a new strategic plan developed for the Waipareira Trust for the New Millennium. Seven shades of greens were used on various surfaces – Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen tinted to Resene Sushi on the conference room wall/doors, Resene Chelsea Cucumber and Resene Crusoe on ceiling trusses, Resene Japanese Laurel on wall timber, Resene Tree Frog and Resene Crusoe on the rail, Resene Crusoe on the entry door and a collection of Resene Sushi, Resene Crusoe and Resene Fruit Salad on the concertino to make a statement of this part of the room. The greens work well with the neutral tones of Resene Athens Grey on selected wall areas and Resene Black White on architraves, skirtings and the ceiling.

Outdoor area

The canteen courtyard contains the hallmarks of a traditional Marae colour scheme while simultaneously bringing it into the 20th century with the help of accent colours.

Courtyard

Resene Rain Forest and Resene Bokara Grey have refreshed the tired old trellis fence. Resene Red Berry was used on pergolas and posts to add vibrancy to the environment and to contrast with the Resene Sonyx 101 waterborne semi-gloss tinted to Resene Black White on posts, doors and outdoor furniture. Rainproof translucent Plexiglas roofing brings the sun in during the winter and gives U.V. protection during summer.

New perennials and young bright green yuccas were planted on the old flower beds where cigarette butts previously rested. Deep and rich Resene Lumbersider CoolColour tinted to Resene Bokara Grey has transformed the weatherboard walls, planter boxes and retaining walls contrasting with the vivid white of scoria stones and white marble table tops, red pergolas and fresh green plants. The result is a new, smoke-free outdoor eating area created to support the Trust’s new healthy eating and positive living philosophy.
