Percy house

From the Resene Total Colour Awards gallery — Mangakino Lane

Perched on a ridge, nestled within bush overlooking the Mangakino Waterfall is the Percy House.

Home by waterfall

This north facing home was designed to optimise indoor/outdoor flow beckoning one to enjoy the secluded relaxing environment and optimise the magnificent views of the delightful waterfall in the valley below the house.

Built in two pods with adjoining covered deck, the house offers generous living conditions for the owners in one pod while offering separate self contained accommodation for family and friends in the other.

From the entry gates a bush lined drive brings the visitor to the front door. The walls at this point are solid offering privacy to the residents and intrigue to the visitors.

The oiled cedar panels anchor the building to the volcanic soils and the Resene Green Meets Blue and Resene Half Tea blend with the varying moods of the sky enhancing the float appearance of the building when viewed from the waterfall.

Modern home exterior

It is not until you enter the building that the splendour of the location is revealed, magnificent views unfold before you with views framed by every window. Internal colours in the living areas are muted, soft and delicate so as not to compete with the views, bedrooms in the guest wings being more secluded have deeper and bolder colours.
