Body Organics

Located in Chelmer, a green leafy suburb of Brisbane, Body Organics is a centre for Pilates and healing therapies. The project involved the conversion of a post-war timber cottage into an open plan Pilates studio, three therapy rooms, reception area and accessible bathroom.

The design concept for the interior integrates a contemporary aesthetic with retained character features. The colour brief from the client was to use a base of ‘green’. Resene Avocado was the first colour selected, with the other colours selected around this. The Resene colour palette is based on natural landscape colours however they also provide a cross-over to urban environmental colours. The palette works to provide intensity and contrast to the active spaces with the deep brown of Resene Mondo and the sharp highlight of Resene Billy T, with calmer colours moving through the passive therapy spaces through the use of Resene Avocado and Resene Lemon Twist. Colours are applied using Resene Zylone Sheen waterborne low sheen or Resene Lustacryl semi-gloss waterborne enamel, specifically selected for their aesthetic appeal and Environmental Choice approval.

Wall textures are highlighted rather than downplayed, with the retention of the VJ timber (vertical jointed) and the existing textural wallpaper, which is simply painted over providing a beautiful surface. Other materials used in the fitout include Resene Alabaster, hardwood timber floors, eco-ply and coloured acrylic joinery and Florence Broadhurst ‘Aubrey’ fabric.

Overall the project balances a feeling of energy and calm benefiting both the clients and staff of Body Organics.
