Leather book cover

From the Resene Total Colour Awards gallery

This colour book consisted of many different exercises experimenting with colour intensity, hue, value keys, colour wheel, schemes, mood boards, spatial awareness, harmony and the likes.

Painted leather book cover

Tina Corson My tutor Nanda, is very passionate about colour and presentation, so I thought I would collate my exercises in to a beautifully bound book, with an analine black leather cover, and a splash of colour to boot.

Tutor Nanda is so passionate about colour, yet in practice loves rather muted tones for her interiors. One thing Tina Corson loves to do is shock people in to appreciation, so she decided on the brightest, most brilliantly butterfly to decorate the modestly neutral leather cover.

She took to the internet to find a cartoon butterfly picture and painstakingly cut the stencil out with a craft knife, taking at least a week of nights to complete it.

Taping the stencil onto the leather, Tina proceeded to sponge the colours on using a range of Resene testpots, trying to slightly ‘ombre’ them together, making sure each colour was dry before tackling the next one. Once dry, she dabbed metallic Resene Copper Fire and Resene Pearl Shimmer around the edge.

Voila! A beautiful book cover to be proud of.
