The monochromatic colour palette provides a minimal, modern, and semi-industrial feel throughout.

When relocating their offices to Kettlewell House, within The Crossing, the client's goal was to modernise their working environment, moving away from the traditional cubical setting to transition into an open plan, collaborative space.

Black and white office reception

The monochromatic colour palette provides a minimal, modern, and semi-industrial feel throughout. The overall design is in keeping with the building and exposed structural elements.

Element 17 took inspiration from the modern New York 'loft style' interiors which incorporate the use of minimal yet high contrast colour schemes. Creative use of aluminium framed glazing to meeting rooms replicates the traditional steel framed loft windows often found in these spaces.

Modern office space

Black and white office cubicles

Situated on the third floor, the office benefits from lots of windows, saturating the space in natural light.

The coloured company logo stands out over the black back drop situated in the entranceway creating an eye-catching feature as you walk out the lift.

Modern black and white office

The clean, structured design elements, such as the timber posts, create a sense of privacy within an open space while keeping sight lines clear to encourage interaction.

The vinyl plank flooring creates a direct walking line through the office to the breakout zone and staff kitchen.

In the case of this design less truly is more.

The main inspiration for the scheme throughout was a modern, minimalistic, crisp, and clean office. Taking inspiration from modern New York 'loft style' designs the look was recreated using monochromatic, neutral colours and finishes. Using Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen tinted to Resene Black White throughout the office, with the same colour on the steel columns in Resene Lustacryl semi-gloss waterborne enamel, really helped the black features stand out. Instead of hiding away the existing steel structure, it's made a feature by painting it in contrasting Resene Lustacryl semi-gloss waterborne enamel in Resene Nero. Resene Nero is repeated in the entranceway and kitchen, with Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen. The addition of timber posts creates a sense of privacy, stained with Resene Pitch Black. This was a great way to bring in timber elements while still being consistent with the overall design, look and feel.

Modern black and white conference room

Resene Colorwood interior natural wood stain finished in Resene Aquaclear satin waterborne urethane was a great solution for the timber used throughout as it has a transparent like look which preserved the grain of the timber while adding the desired depth of colour.

One challenge with this fit-out was that it is on the third floor of the building and getting products and finishes delivered on site required more thought, having to take into consideration traffic management and a crane to lift pallets onto the outdoor balcony.
