The Grange Takapuna is a new bar and bistro within the new hospitality precinct, Goodside, at Smales Farm in Takapuna. The buildings were designed as a series of linked farm buildings with a contemporary twist.
It was important as part of the interior fit out design to embrace this theme by using a combination of natural timber and black ‘board and batten’ forms. This simple palette was further enhanced by the use of rich fabrics, black and white marble and lush greenery, creating a moody, yet warm and inviting atmosphere for diners.
Inspiration for the colour scheme was drawn from the use of natural timber and black ‘board and batten’ detailing on the outside of the building.
Bringing this indoors, Resene SpaceCote in Resene Black was used on the internal board and batten walls as well as much of the cabinetry. The internal walls and ceilings lined in American white oak were finished in a clear finish from Resene to enhance the natural characteristics of the timber.
To add some fun, Resene Clover was used on the furniture in the all-weather terrace to complement the botanical theme of the fabrics.
The biggest challenge in this project was coming up with a colour scheme that was acceptable to the client but also met the approval of the developer and building owner.
