As part of a full renovation and extension to the Parrot and Dog Tavern, a brand new sports bar area was added with an overhaul of the bistro, gaming room and amenities.
The aim was to portray an elegant yet comfortable space by incorporating ambient wall finishes and by using simple materials in an effective and creative way.
The hand-made copper bar top is the centre piece of the sports bar, which sets the tone for the palette of materials used throughout. Bold and moody paint finishes, textural surfaces and layered screening elements work together to define the space, with touches of leather, custom designed carpet and greenery adding a softening touch.
The sports bar design leant itself to a dark paint finish, using Resene Dark Side, creating a striking aesthetic in conjunction with other finishes used. It provided a stark contrast to the natural timbers, honed concrete and copper used throughout.
The bistro and gaming room were finished in Resene Ironside, inspired by the carpet used throughout so these spaces could flow seamlessly. Fresh white Resene Half Rice Cake was used as a feature on the imitation brick cladding used at the bistro booths with Resene Quarter Thorndon Cream on ceilings.
Resene FX Metallic Magma was used on the aluminium signage, as it provided the best copper metallic finish. When investigating signage materials it was apparent no other finish was going to give a true metallic finish, like this paint could.
The tavern is now inviting, yet unpretentious, catering to a variety of patrons while still providing the offerings of a typical suburban tavern.
