Wanting to pay homage to the original functional design and retain sympathy with the neighbourhood while upgrading to the latest building materials and technology, it was important to lift the look of the exterior and make her stand out.
Real By Design have taken the bones of a 98sqm weatherboard house, a 1969 Neil Homes’ design, stripped it back and moved, lifted and rebuilt it into a new 256sqm luxury home. The house was on a very difficult site of volcanic rock, and many were used in the landscaping.
Wanting to pay homage to the original functional design and retain sympathy with the neighbourhood while upgrading to the latest building materials and technology, it was important to lift the look of the exterior and make her stand out.
Trying to find an uplifting colour that allows the house to blossom on the site was the challenge. Inspiration for the exterior was based around creating an overall effect when clients first see the property and to draw them in. The exterior colour contrasts beautiful with the design elements and materials used in the construction. This dark cherry red was custom mixed for this project, based off a car park sample. It is painted in high gloss Resene Hi-Glo to provide an interesting effect with light.
The red is the colour of love and contrasts beautifully with the Resene Lumbersider Black used on the fencing and the landscaping. Resene Black is also used for the doors.
The internal colours needed to be warm and inviting and to complement the leather and porcelain stone feature panelling used throughout. Resene Zylone Sheen in Resene Merino is used on walls teamed with Resene Enamacryl gloss waterborne enamel in Resene Quarter Merino on trims and Resene Eighth Merino on ceilings. The low sheen wall paint was chosen to allow the owners to wipe them clean and not have residual marks.
Everyone who sees it loves it. It is the colour of love.
