Manly, Brisbane
Just completed, this large home nestles sympathetically in the old seaside suburb of Manly.
The owners have worked hard to produce a home that is sympathetic to the Brisbane seaside vernacular including many of the design details and embellishments characteristic of this style of early colonial beachside vernacular.
The owners were adamant that only the best paint and coating systems were to be used on this project and this extended from all necessary preparatory works through to primers, undercoats and topcoats. This was paramount in their minds due to the harsh physical Queensland environment, characterised by strong sun and rain and its very close proximity to the ocean. These considerations are reflected in the decision to use Resene Sonyx 101 semi-gloss as the main finishing coat to the home while the colour selection of Resene Half Silver Chalice is both mindful of LRV considerations and reflective of the Australian Coastal aesthetic that was desired.
Decking is finished in Resene Furniture and Decking Oil with Resene Lumbersider in Resene Gravel on the underside. The grey theme continues to the timber fence with Resene Lumbersider in Resene Stack.
Many would argue that Australian Coastal is just another form of ‘Hamptons style” but there are some very distinct design elements that set it apart. Amongst these is the distinctive corrugated iron awning and canopies fretwork/trims and detailing evident on this home, all highlighted in Resene Summit Roof in Resene Alabaster. Exterior soffits and exterior timber trim and detailing are also finished in Resene Alabaster, using Resene Lumbersider and Resene Enamacryl.
The interior colour selection of Resene Half Merino was carefully considered too. The owners wanted a modern and clean feel but with a little warmth. Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen in Resene Half Merino has proven an excellent choice and works sympathetically with the spotted gum hardwood timber floors, large honed floor tiles and rich chocolate brown carpet. It is teamed with Resene Enamacryl gloss in Resene Alabaster on trims and joinery, Resene SpaceCote Flat in Resene Half Alabaster on ceilings and the staircase handrails finished with Resene Colorwood and Resene Qristal Poly-Gloss to add richness to the timber.
Resene Uracryl 403 in Resene Alabaster was used extensively for the front door, frames and internal staircase balusters, rails and risers, for a super durable and mirror like finish.
This project has been a great success and has garnered many complements from local residents and the painters themselves who have worked fastidiously to achieve such a flawless finish.
