An inviting neutral palette draws you in and provides a luxurious warm cocoon.
This designated home office space blends the best of both worlds with a separate client entrance and the flexibility to work from home. The business owner wanted a space that could showcase interior design sampling without distracting from what was on offer: inviting, luxurious and serene.
The home office is separate to the business’ warehousing five minutes away for convenience and flexibility.
The office space is of long thin proportions, adapted from an old villa veranda that was not used, due to facing into the cold Easterly direction. Fully insulated and built in sympathy with the original architecture of the large character villa, the office is cleverly adapted to make use of every bit of space, without looking cluttered. The custom joinery was carefully planned to offer separate workstations to suit two people working back to back if need be. It was completed prior to the Covid lockdown, so was a perfect situation for a business compatible with staying at home.
The colour palette needed to be a reflection of the owners’ love of deep pigments and animal print glamour. The rest of the home has plenty of colour, so the office was a standout from this yet cohesive with the dramatic theme running through the rest of the home.
An inviting neutral palette draws you in and provides a luxurious warm cocoon. Walls and ceiling in Resene Porter works perfectly. The white Weathermaster shutters are toned with the Resene Eighth Thorndon Cream trims to balance the front of the house from the exterior view as well.
Although a very simple palette, the colours give a dramatic feel for a luxe office space that is both practical and timeless. The custom joinery from Mallia Group in Black Wilderness Woodgrain blends with the Resene Porter for a seamless flow through the space and makes it seem bigger. Black LED downlights add plenty of lighting options and an LED strip below the overhead cupboards means no need for a desk lamp.
The French Country Collections cabinet has been cut into the skirting board to ensure a perfect fit up against the wall with seismic fixings. It gives a character feel yet offers ample storage for reference books and samples for this interior design business.
