Wentworth Point Penthouse

Wentworth Point NSW

The aim was a contemporary styled home with a neutral colour palette, with a touch of blue.

The client had just bought a new penthouse apartment and were to get the keys in a couple of weeks. Heavily pregnant at the time. Initially, all that was needed was help choosing paint colours, but as the baby arrived early, this evolved into supplying all new lighting, furniture, rugs and decor for inside and out!

Bedroom

The aim was a contemporary styled home with a neutral colour palette, with a touch of blue.

The apartment itself is on the top two floors of a fairly new building in Wentworth Point, and has a gorgeous view straight onto the river. Many large windows let in fantastic light. This enabled colour with depth and balance to be brought into the colour scheme that would work with the main neutral of Resene Half Alabaster.

Dining area

The living area is quite long and wide. To give the illusion of even more space – especially as there was so much natural light streaming in – the end wall was painted in the Resene Indian Ink – a gorgeous deep rich dark blue, then six mirrors were hung. Even though you can’t see vast stretches of the blue, it allows the dark frames of the mirrors to melt in and blurs where each mirror ends and the wall begins. A large modern pendant now features over the dining table in front of the mirrors. When the light is turned on, you get a magic doubling effect via the reflection in the mirrors. The result appears as an illusion - how long is the space? Are there two pendant lights? Where does the wall end?

Lounge

The drama of Resene Indian Ink was also used for the entry, teamed with a framed abstract artwork with copper colours on a white console which contrasts in a sharp yet fresh way with the wall.

Testing with Resene Half Alabaster showed its ability to bounce light around the room, perfect for the rest of the apartment. Deep blue and steel blues were added through artwork, linen and scatter cushions in the master bedroom, with added additional warmth through the copper pendant and lamps. Furniture, the rug and floor lamp were used as neutrals – blacks, greys, silvers – to let the deep blue do the talking.

Wall colours

The paint finishes are a practical Resene Zylone Sheen with no added VOCs for walls, with Resene Lusta-Glo semi-gloss enamel for trim and Resene matt finish on the ceiling.

The client is very proud of the home and enjoys showing it to her many visitors.
