From the Resene Total Colour Awards gallery of entries
This new Merivale home is one of two constructed on a purposely subdivided large section, located within a Flood Management Area. The requirement was to create an individual style, to complement but differ, from the surrounding residential environment. The homes are of similar construction materials, but differ in internal planning, with subtle form changes. Each is surrounded by large outdoor areas and planting.
The exterior timber frame is 140mm clad with dark stained bevel back Cedar in a custom blend of Midnight Brown in Resene Waterborne Woodsman applied as a Machinecoat finish by HermanPacific. This colour was selected to complement the roof and spouting colour, the natural planting and to contrast with the garage.
The brief also required an apartment style home, to provide a Christchurch base, used only about a third of the year.
