The finishing touches – doors and windows

From the Resene decorating blog

Doors and windows are a hardworking part of your home – they are prone to the weather and mechanical action as they are regularly opened and closed.

You can make a prominent feature of your front door and make it easier for visitors to find the front door simply by choosing a bright contrasting colour to the rest of your home. Bright reds are a very popular choice for front doors and can add a nice touch of colour outside without being too overpowering. Try your favourite Resene colour in a high gloss finish for maximum impact.

Resene recommends Resene Lustacryl semi-gloss waterborne enamel for most window joinery painting projects. It is a waterborne finish so performs well outside but is also a lower sheen than Resene Enamacryl so will hide more surface imperfections.

If you prefer a stained finish, Resene Kwila Timber Stain or Resene Woodsman Wood Oil Stain are also popular options but will need recoating every couple of years.

Inside, Resene Lustacryl is superb for interior doors. If you are planning a tone on tone colour scheme, you can opt for doors and trims in a colour strength one higher or one lower than your wall colour for interest. The semi-gloss finish of Resene Lustacryl is also a nice subtle contrast to normally low sheen wall colours. Alternatively if you would like to use some colour inside you can paint one side of a door a bolder hue to add a little personality into the room.

Wardrobe doors of children's rooms are the ideal opportunity to experiment with Resene Magnetic Magic, Resene Blackboard Paint or Resene Write-on Wall Paint. Children can then stick magnets or write on the wall in chalk, whiteboard markers or liquid chalk, depending on the product you choose, without damaging the walls. It’s a great way to let children interact with their room.

Keep your paintwork cooler with a Resene CoolColour™

A Resene CoolColour looks like a normal colour but thanks to special pigment technology it reflects more of the sun's energy, so it doesn't get as a hot as a standard colour would. The colours work by reflecting energy in the near and far infra-red region of the spectrum even though they absorb strongly in the visible region.

Resene CoolColour technology is available in a range of Resene premium paints and stains, including Resene Lustacryl and Resene Enamacryl waterborne enamels, suitable for a wide range of exterior projects, especially where dark colours are planned. Ask your Resene ColorShop staff whether a Resene CoolColour finish is right for your project.
