An energy-efficient home has many spin-offs for homeowners as well as the environment.

Energy savings and a healthy home are key benefits promoted by Right House, a company established by Meridian Energy to offer advice and solutions on energy efficiency.

Right House endorses the new Lite-House project, citing it as an inspiring example of sustainable design and energy efficiency.

Hamish Sisson, Right House chief executive officer, says the company’s consultants work with individual homeowners to tailor a solution that suits their lifestyle and budget.

“Right House can assess building plans or existing homes, and advise on products and materials that will provide energy savings, and keep you warm and comfortable all year round,” he says.

Low-VOC paint was another green alternative

Low-VOC paint was another green alternative specified for the Lite-House. Resene low-VOC paints were specified for both the exterior and the interior, and were a contributing factor in the house winning several awards, including the Resene Supreme Award at the ADNZ/Resene 2010 National Design Awards.

Exterior paints include Resene Lumbersider, tinted to Resene Lite-House Special, a silver colour that was custom mixed for the project. Resene Lumbersider is an Environmental Choice-approved paint based on a tough 100% acrylic resin, for maximum durability.

Timber walls were stained in waterborne Resene Woodsman, an Environmental Choice-approved wood stain that highlights the grain.

The interior walls were painted in Resene Zylone Sheen VOC Free, a waterborne, low-odour, Environmental Choice-approved paint that provides a durable, washable finish. The paint was tinted to Resene Black White, from The Range Whites & Neutrals colour fandeck.
