Create with paint! Projects from habitat by Resene
Create a wonderfully colourful welcome mat using river stones and Resene testpots.
This mat is painted with an ombre effect, filled with summery yellows for the season – have fun with your own colourways and patterns.
Ombre effect (from top): Resene Wild Thing, Resene Moonlight, Resene Alabaster, Resene Moonlight, Resene Wild Thing, Resene Turbo, deck in Resene Greywash. Succulent holder in Resene Swiss Caramel
Step one
Work out the placement of the stones by arranging them tightly together.
Step two
Divide into six lines.
Step three
To create the ombre effect, paint the first line of stones in Resene Wild Thing. Continue painting the rest of the lines in different colours, painting in this order: Resene Moonlight, Resene Alabaster, Resene Moonlight, Resene Wild Thing and Resene Turbo. Leave to dry.
Step four
If using a plastic mat that isn’t rectangular, measure and cut into shape.
Step five
To finish, glue the painted stones onto the mat, and leave to dry. If there are noticeable gaps in the mat between the stones, paint up smaller pebbles and glue in between the gaps.
Top tip: Get the whole family involved and let everyone paint river stones in their favourite Resene testpot colours, then create a random pattern or rainbow effect.
