garden glories

From Habitat magazine - issue 15

Beyond the usual surfaces of weatherboards and fences, paint and stains bring life to the garden.

Whatever project you're tackling outside, on your house exterior or in the garden, chances are Resene has a product to suit.

Pool area
Garden totem poles
Pool area: Marg Wood has the perfect partners for her new pool area – Cape Cod chairs from Garden Pine Design painted pretty sorbet colours, Resene Princess (pink) and Resene Splat (blue) from the Resene KidzColour range. Totem poles: Lois and John McCormick's 'Moon Beam' totem poles were crafted out of macrocarpa by landscape designer Mike Crawshaw and finished with Resene Waterborne Woodsman stain in Resene Pitch Black on the bottom.

Colour it: Two coats of Resene Lumbersider will add colour to your fence, deck, outdoor furniture or walls in next to no time. Resene Lumbersider is available in thousands of colours from the Resene Total Colour System.

Revive your roof: Revive your faded roof and boost your roof's defence against the elements with Resene Summit Roof, made with UV resistant pigments and tough acrylic polymers to give a long-life satin finish on new or previously painted roofs.

Outdoor planter rack
Raised garden beds
Planter rack: A handsome planter rack cleverly fashioned around fence pickets is finished in Resene Waterborne Woodsman penetrating oil stain tinted to Resene Woody Bay. For this and other outdoor projects, see Resene.  Walkway: Raised garden beds and a boundary fence in the Weaver garden are painted in Resene Scarpa Flow.

Going natural: Resene Waterborne Woodsman is suitable for use on many exterior timbers including weatherboards, dressed and rough sawn timber, fences, plywood and profiled sheets. There are 47 colours and powerful fungicides to keep away the mould.

Classic looks: Resene Woodsman Wood Oil Stain is a solventborne traditional finish ideal for exterior timber surfaces such as weatherboards, decking and furniture.

Classic picket fence
A quirky interpretation of a classic picket fence graces the front of the Weavers' Auckland house. It is painted Resene Half Pearl Lusta while the house weatherboards are Resene Bluegrass and fascia is Resene Copper Rust.

Refresh the deck: Tired weathered timber decks can be quickly rejuvenated with Resene Woodsman Decking Stain, a waterborne modified oil based stain. Or for those who prefer a lightly oiled look, Resene Furniture and Decking Oil is quick and easy to apply. There's also Resene Kwila Timber Stain for new or weathered kwila, or other exotic hardwoods.

Step out: Giving your paths and steps a fresh coat of paint can do wonders for the overall look of your entranceway. Use Resene Waterborne Sidewalk (now Resene Walk-on) or, for a more natural look, Resene Concrete Stain is designed to penetrate the surface of concrete and masonry to form a tough low sheen finish that enhances its natural texture of the concrete.

Get a grip: Make trafficable areas safe and non-slip with Resene Non-Skid Deck & Path. Available in a desirable low sheen finish, Resene Non-Skid Deck & Path may be tinted to complement existing d├ęcor, both inside and out. The finish has a comfortable grit texture, reducing the risk of accident no matter what the weather.

Splash out: Resene Swimming Pool Paint has been specially designed for direct application to concrete swimming pools. A pool coated in Resene Swimming Pool Paint 'Magic Blue' will be less affected by pool chemicals for a longer lasting colour.

Pool fence
A pool fence and integrated planters are made from the Panelrok system and are finished in Resene Gravel.

Plant it: Textured, colourwashed, painted or stained... Resene has a wide range of products suitable for decorating planters. Available in hundreds of colours, Resene testpots allow you to add colour to your garden planters without being left with litres of excess paint.

Clean and natural: The natural mineral effect finish of Resene AquaShield combines the water repellent properties of silicones with a special surface micro-structure, which considerably reduces the contact area for water and dirt. Dirt particles are more easily carried away by rain, keeping the paint finish looking its best for longer.

Go Mediterranean: The time-worn strength of sandstone with the mellow patina of age has been recreated in Resene Sandtex. Perfect for beautifying and protecting concrete, this versatile finish can be used to reproduce a variety of looks from aged render effects through to natural limestone and sandstone finishes.

Keep it looking good: Annual washing will help maintain the fresh appearance of your paintwork. Follow the recommendations in the Resene Caring for your paint finish brochure or on the Resene website to keep your paint finish looking its best.

Did you know...

When planning to use dark colours outside, Resene CoolColours are designed to reflect more heat than a standard colour so will minimise stress on the coating and substrate, and reduce the temperature of the surface. Resene CoolColours are available in a wide range of finishes so you can keep everything from concrete to timber cooler with paints and stains.
