Pink walls and candy-striped linen are pretty components of this winning room.

Last issue we featured the schemes of the children’s rooms which won our Gorgi Resene competition. And now the winning room, proudly occupied by Abigail Berge, has been made over by her clever mum and dad.

Mum Elizabeth conceived a whimsical scheme in pink, apple and natural tones with butterfly motifs, hand-embroidered wall art, and a clip light shade to display changing artworks or cut-outs.

The walls are painted in Resene Pale Rose, beautifully complemented by a duvet in Gorgi’s Vintage Retro Pink and Lime Stripe 100% cotton fabric. The curtains are made of Old World linen cotton blend in colour Natural, with left-over fabric used to cover the noticeboard. Both the curtain tieback and noticeboard pockets are embellished with embroidered flowers.

The hanging light shade is homemade, using Resene testpots, cardboard and mini fold-back clips. Abigail made the butterflies hanging from her pendant light. She plans to change them from time to time, perhaps to match Gorgi’s Love Us Don’t Hurt Us whale cushion, and put up her drawings and poems in the future. Some natural seagrass storage baskets are coming to put on top of the wardrobe. Says Elizabeth: “They’ll match her curtains perfectly and give her more storage space, as her room is quite small.”
