Craft - inspired by Resene, from Little Treasures magazine
Add a pretty touch to a bedroom with these simple craft ideas...
Colour is a wonderful way to add vibrancy to a child’s room and there are ways to introduce a pretty palette that are both simple and useful. Coat hooks are always a handy addition to a bedroom, as is a box for blankets, toys or other treasures. And learning to spell your own name is always easier with some cute coloured letters to inspire.
Tape off a wedge of the knob (you can do half the knob or cut out a smaller wedge).
Paint one colour and leave to dry completely.
Tape off a second wedge and paint a second colour. Leave to dry completely. (Leave one wedge of wood showing). Screw the knobs onto the backing board at evenly spaced intervals.

Letters
Wooden box
Paint each letter all over with your chosen main colour. Leave to dry completely. Apply masking tape towards the bottom of letter (straight or on angle). Paint the bottom half with Resene Metallic Gold
Handy hint: I used a small test kit roller and tray (available at Resene) instead of a paint brush for a smoother finish on the letters and wooden box.
Use the masking tape to tape off half of each side and the lid.
Paint one colour and leave to dry completely.
Tape off the other half (overlapping slightly) and paint another colour.
Resene testpots are ideal for many small projects like these. You can choose from a huge range of colours without the bother of being left with too much spare paint afterwards.
Make sure low tack masking tape is stuck down well so the paint doesn’t seep under the edge. Peel it off before the paint dries fully to avoid pulling the paint off with the tape.
Try using Resene Blackboard Paint in place of standard paint and then you can write on the box in chalk to label what’s inside.
Pick a palette of 3-5 Resene colours and use them in different combinations – that way all the elements will work together without looking identical.
Think ahead... kids grow fast and tastes change rapidly. When you’re choosing a palette, think of colours that you can accessorise in many different ways. Bring in favourite characters through easily removable items, such as cushions, stickers and toys, so you can easily change them when your child outgrows them.
If you’re planning a room for a newborn and don’t know whether it’s a boy or girl you’re decorating for, try opting for soft shades of green or lemon. You can stick with those colours or add blues for boys or soft pinks and purples for a more feminine look.
