A touch of colour

Interiors – from Latitude magazine

Whether you are planning a new build or simply renovating some rooms, careful thought to the overall colour scheme will enhance your home, creating ambience and helping to define spaces.

How to add colour to your living spaces

Wall in Resene Triple Merino, floor in Resene Tiri wood stain, ombre screen in (from top to bottom) Resene Ebb, Resene Soothe, Resene Paper Doll, Resene Coral Tree and Resene Merino, plant pots in (from large to small) Resene Ebb, Resene Alabaster, Resene Coral Tree, Resene Paper Doll and Resene Merlot, pendant lampshade in Resene Alabaster and tray in Resene Ebb.

Light and airy is a very popular trend however adding a touch of colour here and there can create mood and interest. Even subtle shades can pack a lot of punch, completely transforming how you feel in the space. An all-white home can feel cold and sterile, especially at night time. You will also find art and displays can be really enhanced depending on the colour they sit against. Even a block of soft colour can draw your eye to an artwork that may otherwise be lost in the overall space. Always look at the large swatches at Resene ColorShops and try a Resene testpot to make sure the colours work for your home. You’ll wonder why you didn’t get creative earlier!

Here are some delicate colours to try that work well together. Some could be on the walls, others on furniture or furnishings …

Warm and Dusky

Even the coldest room can benefit from a simple refresh with one or two walls as a gentle accent. These pastels are muted and earthy, creating a calm, relaxing vibe. Think ‘coconut ice and coffee’ with Resene Soothe, Resene Martini and Resene Despacito. Mix with Resene Half Villa White adding small accents of Resene Half Ironsand for contrast.

Spring Fresh

Reminiscent of new buds in early spring, mix colours like Resene Ashanti, Resene Gum Leaf and Resene Cooled Green. These colours are linked but have varying undertones creating interest. Bring to life with accents of Resene Love Me Do and Resene Martinique.

Relaxed Coastal

Calming and uplifting, the shades of the seaside create a holiday vibe any time of the year, great for the soul. Look at Resene Haven, a dreamy blue/green and Resene Quarter Lemon Grass, gentle and beautiful to live with. To add interest, try Resene Half Gunsmoke, a moody grey and Resene Eighth Fossil to lighten the whole scheme.
