Colour trends from NZ House and Garden magazine
We track the Resene colour trends of the past 30 years and show how you can use them today

Wall in Resene Merino
Remember Resene Spanish White, Resene Pearl Lusta and Resene Tea? In the 1990s our homes were aglow with warm neutral paint colours such as these – and for good reason. These colours have soul, and provide a forgiving backdrop for most other colours used as accents or in furnishings.
Today, after a decade of clean whites and greys, we're embracing warmer neutrals again, but in more complex varieties than those that were popular in the 1990s. Look to earth-baked pale clays, warm stone greys and pink blushed creams such as Resene Parchment, Resene Half Tea and Resene Double Blanc.
If you really want to embrace the look of 30 years ago, add a paint effect using Resene FX Paint Effects Medium – maybe not the full-on rag-rolling look of back then, but perhaps a subtle limewash effect.
