Colour trends from NZ House and Garden magazine
Yellowed greens are growing on us.
Green never seems to go out of fashion, with Resene green hues popular every year. As with many perennial colours, however, it does transition from one type of green to another in subtle shifts in character. This year, earthy tones and neutrals have become warmer – whites are creamier, browns are richer and even blues are muted or dark. Greens have also become more grounded; those with yellow undertones have come to the fore – think olive, swampy, khaki and verdant greens. These types of greens pair strongly with terracotta, spicy brown, rich ochre, raffia beige and milky white for a scheme that is enveloping and cocooning, perfect for winter, and especially for bedrooms. It’s also a very gender neutral colour that can be freshened with paler accents for a softer look or made more moody when teamed with dark tones and bold textures.
