Kitchen thingsHaving thought about changing the kitchen colour scheme around June, the work started eight months later and finished a mere two days after it started. The two days' work included wall and cabinetry painting, the addition of a brushed stainless steel sheet behind hobs to blend with the rangehood, changing a microwave shelf over the oven into a cupboard for storage and reconfiguring a small top cupboard into a wine rack for extra functionality. Once louvered pantry doors were panelled in MDF to provide a flat surface ready for painting. The sloping ceiling was painted in Resene White Linen to give a neutral canopy for the Resene Zylone Sheen tinted to Resene Equator walls and Resene Uracryl (Uracryl 401 undercoat and Uracryl 402 topcoats) tinted to Resene Rhino cabinetry.
Painting the Melteca laminate cabinetry necessitated special surface preparation. The Melteca laminate was rubbed down with 220 grit sandpaper, then wiped down with thinners, before being coated in two pack Resene Engineered Coating Systems with an easy reach roller No 5 (which had to be renewed for each application of 1 undercoat and 2 topcoats). As two pack finishes have a relatively short pot life the quantity required was mixed coat by coat. It is amazing how much can be achieved in a short space of time when everything needed for the job is on hand. Inspiration gallery 2003
