Floor fantasticCatie and her brother bought their first house, a rental property in Turangi. They had to do an internal and external overhaul in order to make the property rent-worthy. They painted the whole house using Resene Quarter Tea for all the interior walls and Resene Powder Blue and Resene Weathered Blue from the Karen Walker range on the exterior. ‘The Budget Little Blue Bach’ was born! They were really pleased with the results; however, with a very short time frame available there were some areas they just had to ‘make do with’. The kitchen was one of these areas and it wasn’t until two years later that they had a chance to ‘revamp’ it. The main issue with the kitchen was the really retro green/black and white vinyl floor that was coming up in some places. The vinyl was impossible to take off and they didn’t have the budget to hire professionals. Finally, they had the idea of painting it! They googled ‘paint vinyl floors’ and spoke to one of the assistants at Resene Hamilton who happened to have just done the same with her own bathroom floor. After lots of discussion they decided to give it a go. First of all they repainted all the kitchen cupboards with Resene Quarter Tea, Resene Powder Blue cupboard doors and Resene Weathered Blue handles. Next for the big job! They painted the floor in two coats of Resene Fuscous Grey and covered it with three layers of Resene semi-gloss varnish.
