In stagesThe Davidson family, complete with their three children, purchased a 1930s bach. It was a mere 60 square metres with only two small bedrooms. Last year they completed a much needed extension and now have four bedrooms. Due to the expense of building costs and their rather ‘grandeur’ future vision, they decided to design the build in stages – stage one being the bedrooms. There are three stages in total. That way they get an amazing home in the end without one large initial outlay. However, it does mean while half the house is new and fresh, the existing half remains somewhat old and tired in comparison. Being ever conscious that the older part of the house will be changed in the near future, they were reluctant to invest in it. However they decided to paint it because it would be a relatively inexpensive way to revamp and enhance for the time being without a huge outlay. The existing kitchen was old, characterless and in need of some attention. It didn’t take them long to choose Resene Zomp. Resene Zomp is ‘in your face’ vibrant and fun. It also cools the kitchen from the full afternoon sun it gets. With her passion for the 1950s in mind, Victoria alternated the cupboards/drawers with Resene Half Colonial White. This rich ‘old fashioned’ cream is reminiscent of the 50s and, teamed with the Resene Zomp, captures the era with a modern twist. An older kitchen gives you licence to be more daring than you might be with a new one. Victoria says 'I feel like I’ve got a new kitchen and it cost just a few dollars'. This new look will easily see them through to stage two. Victoria’s love of colour certainly shines through.
