Pets firstThe Ewens and Stoddard family started building their new home in 2008, having designed the house themselves to be solar efficient and to fit into the landscape. They chose to use Timbercrete construction, previously unused in Tauranga City. Their priority was their animals, having two dogs and two cats. They wanted to make their home animal friendly, needing long lasting, hardwearing and easy to clean walls. As they had built near the water they wanted to bring the colours in from outside. This was achieved with a selection of a natural colours palette. Having used Resene paints before they knew they were easy to apply and flowed well onto walls. They applied all the paint themselves, grey downstairs and brown upstairs. They were required to use a compatible paint for the exterior render and selected natural colours to blend in with the hand rendered finish. To achieve their desired colour they had the paint tinted to match the Resene testpot. The finished home now boasts a range of colours – Resene Harvest Gold on the exterior, Resene Iron in the lounge, dining and kitchen, Resene Freestyling on feature walls, Resene Black White on ceilings, Resene Raven on doors, Resene Mint Tulip on the bathroom, Resene Parchment on the master bedroom, Resene Biscotti on the second bedroom, Resene Akaroa on the third bedroom and Resene Malta on doors.
