Bright spot

The 1950s brick house that Angie and Nevin bought, needed a lot of love. When they bought the house it had three bedrooms and a sunroom but was missing a dining room, which they felt was an important room to have.

They tidied up some of the rooms before they got married, then spent some time looking to see if it would make more sense financially to buy a house with more room, to build a new house or to renovate their existing home. After looking at all the options, and with Nevin as a builder, and loving the area they live in, they came to the conclusion that a renovation would be best so started to build a gorgeous 63 m² extension of the south side of the house. This extension included a master bedroom, ensuite, and walk in robe, another bedroom, and a fantastically user friendly laundry. They were then able to convert a spare room into the dining room that opens out onto the deck. They didn’t know at the time how wonderful this would be until their daughter, came along, and they actually had enough rooms in the house.

Teal and white laundry

One of their favourite rooms in the extension is the laundry because with four kids, a lot of time is spent in there. Angie had played it safe with most of the colour in the other rooms in the extension, but had free range to pick a fun colour for the laundry. Her sister had made very bold colour choices in her home and when she suggested Resene Fountain Blue Angie thought she might have been joking. When Angie first painted the playfully bold tealy-green colour Nevin thought it was quite polarising until they added the fridge, freezer, washing machine, dryer and the white cupboards, which balanced the colour beautifully. And now Angie is totally in love with it.

Angie never liked doing laundry before, but now she quite enjoys taking a full-bodied red wine and some music into the laundry and working away peacefully. The room sure does brighten up a dull chore. They loved the colour so much that it has now also been used as a splashback in the kitchen as well.

It’s definitely helped encourage Angie to use bolder colour choices in other rooms. Next on the list is adding a breath-taking Resene wallpaper in their lounge.

Thanks to Angie and Nevin.
