The Aldworth family built their parent’s a home on their property. They clad most of the exterior in rusticated weatherboard, the same as the main dwelling, and always knew that they would paint this part of the house Resene Dark Rum to make both dwellings match. But they were unsure how to finish the second-hand cedar doors.
The question arose, sand and vanish… or paint? While her husband wanted to varnish, Annika was keen to paint the front door the same red as the steel roof. After the painstakingly slow task of building the brick pillars Annika was even keener to paint the door red which she thought would work beautifully alongside the pastel shades of the bricks.
As part of her persuasiveness to use the red, Annika pointed out that her parents can tell any of their expectant visitors to go to the house with the red door to avoid any confusion of having two homes on the one property.
Having convinced her husband of her decision, all are thrilled and love the way the entrance has turned out with the reclaimed wood rafters and brick pillars, using Resene Dark Rum and Resene Pioneer Red ties it all together perfectly.
Thanks to the Aldworth family.
