The Robinson family recently purchased their property from their husband’s parents, who lived there for over forty years. Not surprisingly the master bedroom was top of the priority list to update! They were very keen to sleep in their own room and not feel like they were using their parent’s bedroom!
The mood board for the rest of the home is a very light and pale colour scheme as the house is quite dark but they wanted a much moodier and cosy feeling for their bedroom.
They picked Resene Indian Ink, which is a beautiful dark navy. It’s a blue that has a lot of life in it and creates a striking contrast against the natural wood. Kate’s father in-law spent years stripping back all the wood in this villa and it would feel like sacrilege to paint over it knowing the effort he went to restoring it!
The room has a lovely big bay window and is one of the sunniest rooms in the house so although it’s a dark colour it’s not gloomy at all, but is now very restful and peaceful. The blue changes a lot throughout the day depending on the level of light coming through the window, which influences the mood and feel of the room and creates an ever changing and interesting space. It is now their favourite room to spend time in!
Now that the master bedroom is complete, there is plenty of work to do to complete the rest of the renovations on this beautiful old home to restore it to its former glory. It’s a thrill they’ve been able to keep it in the family.
Thanks to the Robinson family.
